As per MCA recent announcement, any director who was allotted a DIN by or on 31st March 2018 and whose DIN is in approved status, will have to submit his KYC details to the MCA. Further, this procedure is mandatory for the disqualified directors too.
From the Financial Year 2019-20 onwards, it is mandatory for every director who has been allotted a DIN on or before the end of the financial year and whose DIN is in approved status, will have to file form DIR-3 KYC before 30th September of the immediately next financial year.
The DIN holder can file and update their DIR-3 KYC details through e-Form and web services for the previous financial year. These are two types and details mentioned below:
1. KYC Details Update Via eForm DIR-3: The web services are available to the DIN holder who has previously submitted the e-Form DIR-3 KYC in the past financial years and also does not require update in KYC details can make annual KYC updation.
2. KYC Update via Web Services of DIR-3: The holder of DIN filing the KYC details in the initial period as per the MCA should file the details of KYC via the e-Form DIR-3 KYC and the web services access is not available to the person, also the DIN holder need to update the KYC via the e-Form DIR-3 KYC if the update has to be updated. There is no access to the web services for the updation of DIR-3 KYC.
When a director fails to file the e-Form by the due dates (or extended due date) on MCA 21 portal, the DIN of such director is marked as "Deactivated due to Non-filing of DIR-3 KYC" by the department. In such cases, the director can re-activate his DIN by filing the missed out e-Form DIR-3 KYC after paying a late fine of INR 5,000.

The first step would be to download the form the MCA website.
Provide DIN details
The individual/Director must provide his DIN in the KYC form, the status of which is "Approved". Directors’ whose DIN has been deactivated due to non-filing of the KYC can fill the form even after the due date after paying late filing fees.
Enter Relevant Details in the DIR- 3 KYC Form
Name and relevant credentials: Both the applicant's and his father's first and last names must be entered. The name entered must be the same as the one on the PAN. The address provided will be checked against the PAN database. Acronyms, abbreviations, and single alphabets are prohibited.
Nationality: Declaring your nationality is crucial. When it comes to foreign nationals serving as company directors, the nationality specified on the passport shall be chosen.
Declaration of age: A person must enter his date of birth in the DD/MM/YYYY format. It is important that a person is a minimum of 18 years of age while filling this application.
Address: It is required that you include your permanent living address when filling out the form. Ensure that these facts correspond to the evidence of permanent address that will be included. Only if the state selected is NA may a foreign pin code be entered. If your current residence address differs from your permanent residential address, you must also give your current residential address.
Verification of PAN: It is mandatory to declare your Permanent Account Number (PAN). After entering your PAN details click on the ‘Verify income-tax PAN’ button. The system will then verify your details based on the PAN card number. Please note: The PAN mentioned in the form and the PAN mentioned in the DSC must be the same for successful validation. If the foreign nationals do not have a PAN, the name mentioned in the form must be the same as the name mentioned in the DSC for successful validation.
Updating Contact Details and OTP verifications: It is critical to provide your own mobile phone number, which will be validated by an OTP. Only if the individual is not a resident of India will country codes other than +91/91/0 be permitted. You must also enter your personal email address, which will be validated using an OTP. After you've filled out these fields, click the "Generate OTP" button. OTPs will be delivered to your mobile number and email address separately.
Yes, the KYC of every Director who has been allotted DIN on or before the end of the financial year, and whose DIN status is "Approved", would be mandatorily required to file form DIR-3 KYC every year.
Even if you are not a Director in any company/LLP but has a DIN you have to filed your KYC.
All DIN holders can file their KYC through Legal Professionals including Company Secretaries.
